Well, I finally made it back to Akureyri today. In total I was up ~21 hours yesterday which did not sit well with my body - I am really feeling it today. Yesterday, I woke about 7, showered, and had breakfast, then went to the morning sessions at the conference. I talked to my session chair and arranged to have my talk moved up 2 speakers to give me a little more time to check out from the hotel. My talk went well - wish I could have stayed to demonstrate the system to a few more people, but there just was not time. Those that saw the WoundCare system were fairly impressed with what Mark developed - I just need to locate another student to continue the work once I return to Gainesville next year...
I checked out from the hotel and waited for the taxi to the airport. Iain, one of the people I met on the Tuesday's tour, was taking the same taxi and was on the same flight so we arranged to sit together on the plane. We had a good conversation on the flight to London then said goodbye - I was off to catch my flight to Keflavik and he was off to catch a train to stay with relatives.
My flight to Keflavik was a bit late in leaving and only about 15-20% full which made for a good trip. By the time a retrieved my luggage, cleared customs, and took the Flybus to Rekjavik it was nearly 1 am and I was dead tired. Since the flight to Iceland arrived after the last flight to Akureyri, I had arranged to stay at a local hotel for the night and catch the 11 am flight the next morning. I check in to the hotel for the night, then had problems falling asleep and sleeping! Just my luck!
I struggled awake at 8:30 am and finally checked out about 10 am. I took a taxi to the national airport and caught the flight back to Akureyri where Tim met me and gave me a ride back to the apartment. We made a quick trip to by groceries then I spent the afternoon unpacking, reading some e-mail, taking a nap, doing a load of wash, and downloading the photographs that I took from my digital wallet and camera to my computer. Look for photographs of the trip in a few days, once I have a chance to process them in Photoshop. Syed returned to the apartment around 5 p.m. - about the time a woke from my nap. Tim returned about 7 p.m. and rather than cooking dinner, we went over to Adam's and Liz's for pizza which we purchased at a local shop (Tic Tac) 1/2 block from our apartment. Tim and Adam each got a pizza with french fries (among other things) as one of the ingedients - sorry, but that it too strange for me! We returned to the apartment about 10 p.m. when I spent 3+ hours dealing with more e-mail. Tomorrow I will meet with a few students, grade some homeworks, and work on the photographs and updates of what happened in Cyprus while at the conference.
